Why yoga for bone health?
As we age — and especially after a diagnosis of osteoporosis or osteopenia — the way we move matters. Some everyday movements can put unwanted stress on the spine, while the right kind of gentle, weight-bearing practice can support strength, balance, and confidence.
Kathy's teaching draws on the research-based Fishman Method, focusing on what careful study and teaching suggest helps most:
- Bone-safe alignment — avoiding deep forward folds and twists that aren't recommended with low bone density, and learning safer alternatives.
- Balance and fall prevention — steady, supported standing poses that build stability for everyday life.
- Posture and spinal strength — gentle back-strengthening work to help you stand taller and move with ease.
- Chair & accessible yoga — the full practice can be done seated or with support, so limited mobility, balance concerns, or recovery from injury are never a barrier.
- Calm and confidence — breath and relaxation practices in the Kripalu tradition, at a pace that welcomes every body.

In the Kripalu tradition, every practice meets you where you are. Kathy teaches chair yoga and accessible yoga as well as mat-based practice — no experience is needed, and every pose can be adapted with a chair, the wall, or props so you can practice safely and comfortably.
